In partnership with

Hi, it's Anuj.

Last week I explained the three ways a fashion brand can hire you from another country, and I promised to flag roles that are open to people outside the city. So this week I did one thing only: I went through the careers sites for Dubai, London, Milan and remote roles, one employer at a time.

The honest summary first, because it is not what most people expect.

  • London is where the in-house roles are. Eight open this week in the city, from Chanel and lululemon to Farfetch and ASOS, plus three more at Frasers Group's UK head office.

  • Milan has fewer roles, but one of the best entry points on the whole list: Moncler's brand protection and IP internship, which asks for a law degree and fluent English.

  • Dubai is thin for in-house legal right now. I checked Chalhoub, Al Tayer, Majid Al Futtaim, Chanel, Richemont, Kering, Estée Lauder, Sephora and Huda Beauty. None has an open legal counsel role in the UAE today. The doors that are open run through IP firms and compliance teams.

  • Remote legal roles in fashion are rare. I found four that are open to remote candidates, all in the US or EU.

27 roles in total. Every one is on the employer's own careers site and was live when I checked on 28 September.

Dubai and the UAE

If you want to work in fashion law in Dubai, this is the week to be realistic. The in-house legal teams of the big regional groups are not hiring for lawyers right now. What is open is IP enforcement, which is where a lot of fashion work in the region actually happens, and compliance.

  • Enforcement Paralegal, UAE · Rouse · Dubai
The closest thing to fashion law on this list. Anti-counterfeiting across the Middle East and North Africa: customs seizures, raids, police and court actions. English and Arabic required, French a plus.

  • Patent Paralegal · Rouse · Dubai
Patent and design filing across the region. Native Arabic and a patent background preferred.

  • Compliance Manager · Majid Al Futtaim · Dubai
Builds one compliance framework across MAF Entertainment and MAF Lifestyle, the group's fashion arm. Five to eight years in compliance, risk or audit. A law degree counts.

  • Business Risk Manager (maternity cover) · Richemont · Dubai
Internal control, compliance, anti-money laundering and fraud prevention across a Richemont maison's UAE boutiques and online sales. Temporary, full time.

  • Data Strategy and Governance Manager · Al Tayer Group · Dubai
Owns data governance, privacy and compliance for the group behind Ounass and Harvey Nichols Dubai. A technical role, not a lawyer role: 10+ years and hands-on Collibra experience.

  • Paralegal, Corporate team (Job ID CORP005) · BSA Law · Dubai
BSA has an IP practice, but this role sits in corporate. Law degree and at least a year of UAE law firm experience.

My read: if Dubai is your goal, an IP firm is the realistic door this season. Enforcement work is the core of fashion law in the region, and it is where brands hire from later.

London and the UK

My read: none of these postings mentions visa sponsorship. For the counsel roles, UK qualification matters. The brand protection, compliance and privacy roles are where a strong candidate from abroad has the best case.

If a brand wants you but has no office in your country, an employer of record such as Oyster is one way it can hire you. Last week's issue explained how.

What does a $120k hire actually cost you?

A $120K salary might look straightforward on paper. But once you factor in employer taxes, statutory benefits, payroll, and country-specific employment costs, the number can look pretty different.

And those costs can vary significantly depending on where your employee is based. Before you build your hiring budget, or make an offer, it helps to know the full picture.

Oyster’s Global Hiring Cost Calculator lets you compare employment costs across 120 countries and estimate what a hire could really cost your business.

Milan and Italy

  • Brand Protection and Intellectual Property Intern · Moncler · Milan
Law degree and fluent English. Italian is not listed as a requirement. IP filings, clearance searches for names and campaigns, and research on IP, unfair competition and digital law. Apply to this one first if you are early career.

  • Legal Specialist · Kering Eyewear · Milan
About three years. Reports to the general counsel. IT, SaaS and commercial contracts in English and Italian, plus GDPR support. Fixed term, indicative pay around EUR 34,000.

  • Senior Data Privacy Specialist · EssilorLuxottica · Milan
Six or more years. English, French and Italian. AI and connected devices sit inside the brief.

  • Legal Intern · Stone Island (Moncler Group) · Ravarino, Modena
A master's in law and excellent English. Drafting national and international agreements.

  • Legal Counsel · Brioni (Kering) · Rome
Four to five years and admission to the Italian bar. Trade marks, contracts and governance.

  • Legal Counsel · EssilorLuxottica · Agordo, Belluno
Five or more years in commercial law. Sourcing, procurement and product regulation.

My read: Italian is the real filter for the qualified roles. The two internships are the exception, and they are worth a strong application this week.

Remote, from wherever you are

Etsy is a marketplace rather than a fashion brand, but a large share of what it sells is clothing, vintage and accessories, and these teams deal with exactly those questions.

Three things to do before you apply from abroad

  1. Say where you are in your first line. And say which route you are open to: relocating, an employer of record, or contract work. Recruiters skip what they have to guess.

  2. Match the language, not just the law. Arabic in Dubai, Italian in Milan and French for half of Paris. If you have it, put it in the first line too.

  3. Read the qualification line twice. "Admitted to the Italian bar" is a hard requirement. "Qualified lawyer" often is not, especially in-house.
